PAUL WELLS FROM BECKLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN OXFORDSHIRE
In December 2016, a man identified as Paul Wells, aged 46 and residing on High Street in Beckley, Oxfordshire, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving minors. Wells was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl and engaging in a series of other sexual offenses committed within Oxfordshire between the years 2011 and 2013.The court proceedings, which lasted for seven days at Oxford Crown Court, revealed that Wells was responsible for a total of eight counts of sexual activity with a child, along with two counts of producing indecent photographs of a child. The severity of his crimes was underscored by the fact that they involved two girls under the age of 16, highlighting the grave nature of his offenses.
During the trial, Det Con Kelly Gilbert, a representative from the child abuse investigation unit, expressed her satisfaction with the verdict, stating, “I am so pleased with the outcome of this trial. Finally, Wells is where he belongs, and the girls involved can begin to try to move forward with their lives.”
Wells was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the charge of rape. The sentences for the remaining eight counts of sexual activity with a child and the two counts of making indecent photographs will run concurrently, ensuring he serves the full term for his most serious offense. The court had scheduled a sentencing hearing for November 18, where the judge formally imposed the sentence.
Earlier in October 2016, Wells was convicted after a jury at Oxford Crown Court unanimously found him guilty of the multiple charges. The court's decision reaffirmed the community’s demand for justice and underscored the importance of protecting minors from such predatory behavior. Det Con Gilbert reiterated her commitment to safeguarding children and ensuring that offenders like Wells are held accountable for their actions.
