JEREMY LAW FROM BECKLEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN EAST SUSSEX AND TENTERDEN
In a significant case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Beckley, Tenterden, and East Sussex, Jeremy Law, a 51-year-old resident of Hobbs Lane in Beckley, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses committed over a span of several years. The crimes for which Law was found guilty involve heinous acts committed against three children and two women, with incidents dating back from 2005 to 2012. These offenses took place across different locations, notably in Tenterden and East Sussex, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned over a decade.
The case came to light after a woman, who was a victim of Law’s abuse when she was a child, came forward in June 2016 to report two separate incidents of sexual assault. Her courage in speaking out prompted a thorough investigation by Kent Police, which subsequently uncovered additional victims. Further reports from three other women, also victims of abuse during their childhood in East Sussex, emerged during the course of the inquiry.
Law was also accused of raping one woman on three separate occasions and sexually assaulting another woman twice. These allegations formed the core of the charges brought against him. Despite his denials, Law was arrested in East Sussex and questioned by officers from Kent Police in August and November of 2016.
Following the investigation, Law faced nine counts of non-recent sexual assault and rape. His trial took place at Canterbury Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty of all charges on Friday, October 26, 2018. The verdict marked a significant victory for justice and for the victims who had endured years of trauma in silence.
PC Chloe Chandler, the investigating officer, expressed her thoughts on the case, stating, “It was only after the first victim came forward many years later that we were able to uncover more victims, all of whom have understandably been emotionally scarred from the things that Law did to them.
“Whilst there is no doubt these violations will stay with these women forever, we hope that his prison sentence will offer them some comfort that he did not get away with the crimes he committed.
“I would like to thank them on behalf of Kent Police for their bravery in coming forward and talking to us about what happened so that we could ensure he was convicted. I’m only sorry he continued to lie about it and they all had to endure a trial as well.
“Nobody should suffer from sexual abuse and we would always encourage victims to come forward, no matter how long ago it happened, as we will do everything we can to investigate and seek justice for them.”
