PAUL STOTHER, SEX OFFENDER FROM BRISTOL, AND HIS CRIMES IN EXETER AND CURRENT STATUS
In August 2022, it was reported that Paul Stother, a convicted sex offender, is now active on Facebook under the alias 'Paul A Angel'.Back in February 2017, Stother, a dangerous HIV-positive sex offender, was released from prison after serving an eight-year sentence for a severe sexual assault in Exeter.
In 2012, he was convicted of raping a 16-year-old boy in Northernhay Gardens, Exeter. At that time, Stother was living in Bristol and was 36 years old. He was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of assault by digital penetration. The victim was left terrified he might have contracted HIV and emotionally devastated by the assault.
Stother’s attack on the teenage boy was brutal; the boy, who was walking home from a party, was unable to escape as he was followed and assaulted. The court heard that he was unable to continue his college studies afterward because he was overwhelmed with questions about what happened. The boy was also required to take anti-retroviral medication as a precaution until HIV was ruled out.
During the trial, Stother denied two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault but was ultimately convicted of one count of rape and one assault by digital penetration. He received an eight-year prison sentence. Judge Mr. Justice Butterfield described the offence as a 'brutal rape' and highlighted the aggravating factor that Stother was HIV positive, noting, “You fancied this young man, who was only 16... These events have almost literally destroyed him.”
Prosecutor Malcolm Galloway presented a victim impact statement, revealing the profound effect on the boy. “He says in the 14 months since the attack his whole world has fallen apart. His family has been torn apart and he does not know if it will recover. He has left college because he could not bear people asking him constantly about what happened. He has lost family and friends,” Galloway stated.
Despite his conviction, Stother was released from prison and was spotted recently being assaulted outside a gay club in Bristol city center. Officials emphasize that he remains a highly dangerous and opportunistic sex offender.
It was also noted that Stother has since created a Facebook profile under the fake name 'Paul A Angel', raising ongoing concerns about his behavior and potential risks to the community.
