HEATON MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 5 YEARS FOR RAPING VICTIM
In October 2015 Paul Wilson of Heaton was sentenced to 5 years and 4 months in prison, and he will be released next year.Paul Robert Wilson, aged 30 from Biddlestone Road, Heaton, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape at Newcastle Crown Court.
The court heard that Wilson admitted to locking the doors and removing the keys before raping the woman in her home.
Despite her objections, he forced himself on her, saying ‘You want this,’ and his assault lasted for some time before he stopped and apologized.
He then ripped the phone from the wall and took her mobile to prevent her from calling the police.
He followed her upstairs after she tried to escape and raped her again, pinning her down and telling her she was 'getting what she deserved'.
The victim was initially too scared to report the assault but eventually came forward, describing how she now feels unsafe, suffers from flashbacks, nightmares, and sleep problems, and bears mental scars from the ordeal.
Her lawyer pointed out Wilson's recognition of the seriousness of his crime and his eventual guilty plea.
Judge Robert Adams sentenced Wilson to five years and four months in prison, with an indefinite restraining order and lifetime registration on the sex offenders register.
The victim, whose identity is protected, expressed hope to rebuild her life and urged others in similar situations to speak out, emphasizing that ‘you will be believed’.
Detective Constable Simon Reid of Northumbria Police praised her bravery and encouraged other victims to come forward, assuring they will be believed and supported.
Wilson’s case was widely supported by police and victim support agencies, highlighting the importance of reporting sexual offenses.
