TEESSIDE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR PARTNER MURDER
A 62-year-old man named Paul Plunkett was convicted of the murder of his partner, 66-year-old Barbara Davison, at her residence on William Street, Redcar, on August 15.Plunkett had a prior criminal history, including a sentence for manslaughter following the strangulation of a previous girlfriend in 1995.
During the proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, he admitted guilt to the murder of Ms.
Davison.
The case unearthed troubling parallels between his historical and recent violent behaviors.
After sentencing, the family of Barbara Davison issued a statement describing him as "a lying manipulative evil coward who will never face up to what he has done and the lives he has destroyed," while also expressing the pain of her loss with the words, "No sentence will ever bring our mam back." They criticized Plunkett for his plea, calling it "a coward’s way out" to dodge facing the full truth.
The court handed down a sentence requiring him to serve at least 23 years in prison.
Cleveland Police’s Detective Inspector Darren Birkett noted that despite his guilt admission, it could not lessen the family’s suffering and warned that "Plunkett is a danger to women and may spend the rest of his life in custody." The case’s connection to his previous manslaughter conviction highlighted a troubling pattern of violence against women that spanned his criminal history.
