PAUL MURRAY FROM ALLOA SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN SCOTTISH COURT

Paul Scotty Murray, born on November 21, 1999, and residing at 10 Gartmorn Road, Sauchie, Alloa FK10 3NX, was convicted in 2020 of inflicting severe injuries on a young dog named Tyson and imprisoning him in a small drawer.

Tyson, a four-month-old pup, suffered from multiple injuries and was found in excruciating pain after Murray left him in a confined space with no access to food, water, light, or room to move. Tragically, the dog was euthanised on humane grounds.

Murray admitted to causing Tyson unnecessary suffering by failing to seek treatment for a series of grave injuries. The court did not explore the initial cause of Tyson’s injuries.

Between February 21 and 28, 2019, Tyson had a fractured elbow, a hurt hip, and was dealing with a painful ear condition. Instead of taking the injured dog to a veterinarian, Murray allowed him to endure these injuries at his property on Gartmorn Road.

On February 28, Murray also admitted to shoving Tyson into a tiny drawer under a bed. Animal police later found Tyson inside the drawer and immediately removed him from Murray's care.

A veterinarian examined Tyson and found "evidence of definite trauma to the head, neck, and femur." The injuries appeared to have resulted from "separate incidents" of trauma, and the pain Tyson experienced was obvious to any owner.

On March 1, Tyson was euthanised due to welfare concerns.

Murray’s solicitor, Grazia Robertson from the Glasgow-based law firm L and G Robertson, stated that her client was struggling with personal health issues and was barely able to care for himself, let alone an animal. She requested that Murray be sentenced to unpaid work or remain under a curfew.

She commented, "Clearly, some punishment is required."

Sheriff Craig Harris expressed his disgust at Murray’s actions, warning him of the seriousness of the offences. He stated, "You put this animal through absolute hell. You should be nowhere near animals. I’ve given serious consideration as to whether you should go to prison for this."

Ultimately, Murray was sentenced to a community order, including 150 hours of unpaid work and a one-year supervision order. Additionally, he is prohibited from owning, caring for, or handling any animals for seven years, a ban set to expire in February 2027.
