PAUL MACFAYDEN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN NORTH AYRSHIRE
A 61-year-old man named Paul MacFayden has been formally convicted and sentenced for serious sexual offences committed in North Ayrshire. The sentencing took place at the High Court in Edinburgh, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for the victims involved.MacFayden was apprehended and charged after a lengthy investigation into allegations of sexual assault involving two women. These assaults occurred over a span of more than a year, specifically between January 2003 and April 2004, in various locations within North Ayrshire. The case drew attention not only because of the serious nature of the crimes but also due to the considerable time elapsed since the offences took place.
During the court proceedings, MacFayden was sentenced to serve six years in prison. In addition to his imprisonment, the court imposed a Non-Harassment Order that will remain in effect for 20 years, aiming to protect the victims from any further contact or harassment from him. This order underscores the severity of the offences and the ongoing concern for the victims' safety.
Detective Inspector Fraser Spence commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in investigations of this nature. He stated, “Despite the passage of time, the victims provided us with statements which allowed us to carry out this investigation. I hope this sentencing offers them comfort as they move on with their lives.”
He further reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to pursuing justice for all victims of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred. Detective Inspector Spence urged anyone who might have information about sexual crimes, regardless of when they happened, to come forward. He emphasized that the police are dedicated to conducting thorough and professional investigations to ensure perpetrators are held accountable, no matter how long ago the offences took place.
