DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR TEENAGE SEX CRIMES
A man aged 39, named Paul Hawes, received a prison sentence of four years due to sexual offences he committed when he was just 13 years old.The charges stemmed from incidents where he molested three young girls while caring for them at a residence in Dundee.
A court jury found him guilty of engaging in indecent behavior with the girls over a period from 1984 to 1990.
Legal representatives argued that if these offences had been uncovered during his childhood, he might have been placed before a children’s hearing rather than being imprisoned.
However, the High Court in Edinburgh sentenced him to four years behind bars.
His defense attorney, John Hamilton, pointed out that had the crimes been known earlier, Hawes could have faced a different type of legal process.
The presiding judge, Lady Clark of Calton, stressed the seriousness of the offences and recognized the lasting impact on the victims, stating that the crimes had caused significant difficulties for the girls over several years.
She added that his misconduct extended beyond a single incident and was not isolated.
The victims, aged between five and nine at the time, endured indecent contact and acts simulating sex.
Despite considering Hawes’s young age when the offences occurred, the court upheld the sentence owing to the severity of his actions.
