PAUL GODWIN FROM BEBINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN WIRRAL

In a case that has shocked the community of Bebington, a man was brought before the court charged with the sexual assault of a young girl aged just 12 years old. The incident, which took place in the Wirral area, has prompted a serious legal response and has raised concerns about the safety and trust within the local community.

According to court proceedings, Paul Godwin, a 47-year-old resident of Abbots Drive in Bebington, was found guilty of molesting the young girl. The court heard that the assault was committed despite the girl’s clear attempts to resist and stop the offender. The prosecuting attorney, Kim Egerton, detailed how Godwin had groped the girl, who had tried to fend off his advances. Despite her protests, he persisted, and the incident left a lasting impact on her.

Following the assault, Godwin offered apologies to the girl, both immediately after the incident and again the following day. The court was informed that the young girl confided in a school friend about what had happened, and this friend subsequently reported the matter to a teacher, leading to the police investigation and eventual court proceedings.

Judge Adrian Lyon addressed the court and expressed his disapproval of Godwin’s actions, emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved. The judge stated, “He had betrayed the trust of a young girl and her family in a way which is likely to have a long-term effect upon them.” Despite this, Judge Lyon acknowledged that Godwin’s behavior appeared to be “entirely out of character,” noting that he had no previous convictions and there was no evidence of similar conduct in the past.

In sentencing, Judge Lyon ordered Paul Godwin to serve a three-year community order with supervision. He also mandated that Godwin attend an intensive sex offenders’ rehabilitation program run by Northumbria. The judge issued a stern warning, saying, “Do not make the mistake of thinking this is an easy way out. This course is particularly difficult and requires you to be honest.”

Additionally, Godwin was instructed to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are treated and underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society from predatory behavior.
