MANAGER CONVICTED AND JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CARDIFF
A company manager named Paul Geraint Rodway, aged 36, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual offences against a child. The charges included one count of rape, four of attempted rape, four of indecent assault, and two counts of gross indecency with a child.
Rodway, a depot manager for a tool hire firm in Port Talbot, denied all allegations and claimed nothing happened.
However, after a three-day trial at Cardiff Crown Court, the jury convicted him of all charges based on evidence, including testimony given via video link from the victim in a separate room.
The evidence detailed how Rodway forced the victim to perform sexual acts and to submit to him after telling the victim to "shut up." The sentence was handed down immediately by Judge Roderick Denyer QC, with Rodway forced to start his sentence without any reports being prepared. The Crown prosecutor, Richard Twomlow, described how the victim was coerced into sexual acts, and the court process involved the victim giving evidence through video link, allowing the jury to see and hear the witness while in a separate room.
Despite Rodway's denial, the conviction was final, and he was transported directly from court to begin his prison term.
