CANTERBURY MAN RECEIVES LIFE FOR 'CRUEL AND EVIL' RAPE
A man named Paul Fleet, aged 41 and living on Warwick Road in Canterbury, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for a rape incident.Fleet enticed a young woman into her home by pretending he needed help, then forcibly entered her residence.
He inflicted a three-hour ordeal on her in January, demonstrating cruelty and malicious intent.
During his court appearance in March, Fleet admitted guilt, and the judge’s decision to impose a life term was based on the severity of his actions and the potential threat to the public.
Judge Anthony Webb remarked: "You convinced the woman you required assistance by repeatedly knocking on her door.
You then forced your way into her flat and subjected her to a prolonged ordeal.
Your conduct displayed cruelty and evil intent." The court determined a life sentence was necessary, meaning Fleet will only be released if no longer a danger to society.
He will serve a life on license and be registered as a sex offender.
Oliver Saxby, acting for Fleet, acknowledged the appropriateness of a life sentence and pointed out that his client's guilty plea helped avoid further trauma for the victim.
