REPEAT OFFENDER CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AND SPARED JAIL
A man named Paul Dodds, who has a history of accessing indecent images of children, has once again been found guilty of possessing such material shortly after being placed on the Sex Offenders Register in February 2020.Despite the legal obligations to make his digital devices available for inspection, police discovered just one week after his registration that he had been browsing explicit content.
His search history on a tablet revealed searches for pregnancy porn and rape porn, while his phone contained 26 indecent images of a teenage girl, estimated to be between 13 and 16 years old.
Additionally, police found three more indecent images of teenagers aged 12 to 16 on his tablet's SD card, along with four videos of adults engaging in sex with dogs.
Dodds admitted to possessing these images and videos at Banff Sheriff Court last month, with the images being downloaded on March 2, 2020.
His actions prompted a sentencing hearing where defence agent Debbie Wilson noted that Dodds had enrolled in the Moving Forward Making Changes rehabilitation scheme and had made significant positive changes.
Sheriff Robert McDonald addressed Dodds, stating, "You are in a perilous situation.
Accessing such images contributes to child abuse and the psychological harm inflicted on victims." The sheriff highlighted that had the images been of a more severe nature, a harsher sentence might have been applied.
Nonetheless, due to Dodds's compliance with supervision requirements and no further offending, he was spared jail.
He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
