PAUL DAY SENTENCED IN CAMBRIDGE COURT FOR OFFENSIVE ONLINE BEHAVIOR NEAR HUNTINGDON
In February 2019, Paul Day, a 58-year-old man from New Road, Woodwalton near Huntingdon, was convicted and sentenced after being caught in a police sting operation for attempting to engage in illegal acts involving minors.Using a false identity on the messaging app Kik, Day initiated conversations of a sexual nature with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl. Between October 14 and November 1, he exchanged inappropriate messages with her. In one instance, he claimed to be in Leeds, asking about which school she attended, and a few days later, he expressed his intention to visit the city again and meet her.
It was later revealed that the girl was actually a police officer conducting an undercover operation.
Upon arresting Day and executing a search of his residence, authorities discovered a tablet containing 21 indecent images of children, five of which were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of severity.
Day pleaded guilty in court to several charges, including attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause a child under 13 to view sexual images, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and possessing three indecent images of children.
On Thursday, February 14, at Cambridge Crown Court, Judge awarded Day a sentence of two years and four months in prison. Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will be in effect for ten years.
