PAUL DAVEY FROM HUNDON AND SUDBURY SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Hundon and Sudbury, Paul Davey, aged 63, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes committed more than a decade ago. The crimes involved the repeated sexual assault of two vulnerable schoolgirls, with the offenses taking place at an address in Sudbury.

Davey, who resides on Lower Road in Hundon, had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges but was found guilty last month at Ipswich Crown Court after a jury deliberated on the evidence presented. The court convicted him of eight counts of raping a girl under the age of 16, six counts of indecent assault, and one count of attempting to induce a miscarriage.

During the sentencing hearing, Mr. Recorder Richard Atcheley did not hold back in condemning Davey's actions, describing his conduct as “simply barbaric.” The court also ordered Davey to sign the sexual offences register indefinitely, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes. Additionally, a court order was issued to prevent him from making any contact with his victims in the future.

The jury was informed that the two girls targeted by Davey had been particularly vulnerable at the time, which he exploited through grooming and manipulation. The assaults occurred at a residence in Sudbury, where Davey took advantage of their trust and innocence.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was the attempt by Davey to induce a miscarriage when one of the girls became pregnant. According to prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones, Davey instructed the girl to drink a bottle of gin and provided her with an instrument to try to terminate the pregnancy himself. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the girl later underwent an abortion. Scientific tests confirmed that Davey was the biological father of the child.

Further details revealed that after the failed miscarriage attempt, Davey used the same instrument on the girl again, but once more, the attempt did not succeed. The court heard that the girl eventually had an abortion, and subsequent tests confirmed Davey’s paternity.

The crimes only came to light when one of the victims approached the police in 2011, followed by the second girl coming forward a year later. Throughout the trial, Davey maintained his innocence, claiming that the girls had fabricated the allegations against him. However, the evidence and testimonies presented in court painted a different picture.

Mr. Atcheley described Davey as “abusive, manipulative, and predatory,” emphasizing the profound physical, emotional, and mental harm inflicted upon the two young women. The court’s verdict and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of such predatory behavior and the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse.
