CONVICTED PAEDOPHILE FIGHTS COURT ORDERS TO ACCESS INTERNET FOR PROMOTION
A convicted paedophile, Paul Buckland from Cardiff, has attempted to have a court order lifted which restricts his access to the internet following a series of serious crimes involving child abuse images.Buckland, aged 45, was issued a sexual offences prevention order in 2011 after admitting to multiple counts of making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic material, including grotesque acts such as oral sex with a horse.
Despite this, he recently appeared in Cardiff Magistrates' Court to argue that the restriction was hindering his ability to accept a promotion at work, claiming he needed unrestricted internet access for training to become a supervisor.
The court, however, revealed that Buckland was also under a second, more recent order from 2016, which he was failing to comply with, and he withdrew his application for discharge to seek further legal advice.
The 2016 order was imposed because he had breached the first restriction by accessing illicit material without software safeguards.
Buckland's history includes a 2020 caution for breaching notification requirements, and court officials noted the similarity of his 2011 and 2016 orders and confusion about his legal status.
The judge explained that the 2016 order could only be discharged by the Crown Court, and Buckland indicated he would withdraw his application to pursue this.
During court proceedings, Buckland fled questions from journalists, refusing to discuss his case further.
