PATRICK MACKENZIE SENTENCED IN SOUTHSEA FOR ILLEGAL SEX OFFENSES AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In March 2014, Patrick MacKenzie, a man with no prior convictions, was convicted of possessing over 11,000 indecent images of children and secretly filming a young girl at an amusement arcade in Southsea.

The incident came to light when staff at South Parade Pier in Southsea observed MacKenzie and contacted police. Authorities subsequently discovered on his computer equipment a total of 617 indecent videos of children, with 200 classified at the most severe levels of indecency. An additional 10,566 images at the lowest level of indecency were located on devices seized from his residence on Bramble Road.

MacKenzie, 31, was also found to have filmed up the skirt of a girl aged between eight and ten years in a shop, recording the incident on his phone. All the victims documented were aged 14 or younger.

He was sentenced to a community order, placed under supervision, and ordered to pay £400 in costs. Furthermore, MacKenzie was required to attend a sex offenders’ treatment assessment programme. He must also sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and was issued a sexual offences prevention order.

During police interviews, MacKenzie admitted to being 'sometimes attracted to young girls,' though it was unclear what he precisely meant by 'young girls.'

Barry McElduff, representing MacKenzie in court, explained that his client had told the author of a pre-sentence report that he 'couldn’t stop himself.' Mr. McElduff stated: 'He effectively said he found it exciting, then he would be disgusted with himself but in effect couldn’t stop accessing the material.'

MacKenzie, who has no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to one count of taking an indecent image of a child and 15 counts of making indecent images of a child. All the images and related devices are to be destroyed.

Addressing MacKenzie, Judge Roger Hetherington remarked: 'I have no doubt that you did this because you were bored and derived excitement and some sexual gratification from this sort of activity.' He further added: 'You have some insight, but only a limited understanding of the nature of your offending and the harm caused to the unfortunate girls who were filmed or photographed in this way.'
