PARTNER JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER AFTER FATAL ASSAULT
A 62-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter for his involvement in the death of his partner following a domestic dispute at their home in Keswick, Cumbria.Patrick Gordon Webster admitted guilt at an earlier hearing at Carlisle Crown Court.
The court was informed that during an intoxicated argument, Webster pushed his partner, which led to a traumatic head injury causing her eventual death.
Emergency services responded shortly after 11 p.m.
on 11 September, and Webster told police that he had caused the injury during a fight, explaining, "we often fight and have fought today," and acknowledging, "I've pushed her and she possibly hit her head." He admitted to delaying the call to emergency services by an hour because he could not wake her.
Katrina Fletcher, aged 64, died in hospital nearly two weeks later.
Her family described her as a loving sister, sister-in-law, auntie, and friend to many.
The court noted that Webster had two prior assault convictions involving Ms Fletcher and had previously received a caution for domestic violence.
The judge remarked on the seriousness of his actions, stating, "No sentence that I can pass can compensate for the loss of a priceless life.
You must live for the rest of your days knowing you caused her death."
