PATRICK DOYLE FROM THORNABY AND WILMSLOW SENTENCED FOR ABHORRENT ACT IN FRONT OF CHILD
In November 2019, a disturbing case involving Patrick Doyle, a man with connections to Thornaby and Wilmslow, came to light as he faced justice for a heinous act committed over two decades ago.Doyle, aged 55 at the time, appeared in court to be sentenced for a sexual offence that had remained unpunished for many years.
The victim, a young girl whose identity is protected by law, had initially made allegations at the time of the incident.
However, despite her claims, no criminal proceedings were initiated back then, as the court heard during the proceedings at Teesside Crown Court.
It was only when she came forward again in 2016, now an adult, that the case was revisited.
Patrick Doyle, who was then residing in Thornaby, denied the allegations at the time.
But by the time of the recent hearing, he had admitted to a charge of indecency with a child, which was accepted by the court last month.
The woman, giving a statement read aloud in court, described how Doyle’s actions had profoundly impacted her life.
She explained that the trauma affected her relationships and mental health, leading to ongoing struggles with anxiety and depression.
In her statement, she expressed her frustration that Doyle had not taken responsibility earlier, instead denying the offence for over 20 years.
She emphasized that no child should endure such experiences and condemned Doyle as a liar.
Her words reflected a desire to finally move past the pain inflicted upon her.
During the hearing, Aisha Wadoodi, representing Doyle, highlighted his role as a carer for an adult daughter with Down’s syndrome and autism.
She urged the judge to consider Doyle’s lack of previous convictions, his guilty plea, and positive references, suggesting these factors should influence the sentencing decision.
Judge Howard Crowson addressed Doyle directly, acknowledging that he had pleaded guilty to a single incident from many years ago.
The judge noted that while an immediate prison sentence might be justified, it would likely be short due to the circumstances.
He emphasized that the harm caused was significant and could not be ignored, but also recognized that Doyle appeared capable of leading an honest, crime-free life.
Considering the passage of time and the potential for managing risk within the community, the judge sentenced Doyle to eight months in prison, suspended for one year, with supervision.
Additionally, Doyle was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that restricted contact with anyone under 16 and prohibited contact with the victim.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
This case underscores the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the offence.
Doyle’s case serves as a reminder of the long-lasting impact such crimes have on victims and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to hold offenders accountable.
