PATRICK CARTER OF GREENOCK INVOLVED IN HORRIFIC ANIMAL FIGHTS AND CRUELTY

Patrick Carter, born on November 17, 1999, and residing at 30 Lansbury Street, Greenock PA15 2NR, has been found guilty of heinous animal cruelty crimes involving his dogs and wild animals. Over a period of at least six months, Carter engaged in and facilitated brutal activities that included training his dogs to attack and kill foxes and badgers, as well as taking part in sickening hunts that subjected animals to unimaginable suffering.

The disturbing details emerged after concerns for the welfare of Carter’s dogs prompted an investigation by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA). Investigators uncovered multiple videos stored on Carter’s phone, which depicted him and others goading their dogs into violent confrontations with foxes and badgers. One particularly shocking video showed faceless individuals using spades to strike a helpless badger, while others encouraged the dogs to finish off their prey in a barbaric display of animal cruelty.

Another distressing clip captured a badger being pinned down as dogs attacked it viciously. Despite the severe injuries sustained by his pets during these violent encounters, Carter refused to seek veterinary treatment. Instead, he proudly displayed their injuries, showing a blatant disregard for their suffering. An undercover officer from the Scottish SPCA described the footage as “gut-wrenching,” emphasizing that the animals involved would have endured terrible pain before being killed.

The investigation also revealed that Carter’s dogs—Laddie, a cross between a Patterdale and a Jack Russell, along with two lurchers named Max and Murphy—had suffered significant injuries. The dogs were later successfully rehomed. During the course of the inquiry, officers discovered conversations between Carter and a friend discussing animal fighting and recent hunts, further implicating him in these illegal activities. Items associated with animal fighting, including a hunting lamp and used nets, were seized during a raid on his residence.

Further examination of Carter’s dogs showed signs of severe trauma. Laddie had notable facial injuries consistent with fighting, while Max exhibited scarring on his jaw and leg. Both dogs displayed deformities within their mouths and noses, indicative of past traumatic injuries. Multiple videos found on Carter’s devices depicted animal fights involving two lurchers matching Max and Murphy’s descriptions. These videos were extremely disturbing, showing animals in great distress and suffering horrific injuries, with voices encouraging the dogs to attack and kill.

The Scottish SPCA officer highlighted that activities like badger baiting and animal fighting are more prevalent than many realize, and anyone involved inflicts unimaginable pain on the animals. Carter’s criminal record includes a connection to Sean Ward, who was jailed for seven months in 2018 and banned from keeping animals for 20 years after his own involvement in similar activities was uncovered.

Carter pleaded guilty to charges of keeping or training dogs for animal fighting between February 6 and July 3 of the previous year, violating the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. His sentencing included a 225-hour community payback order, a six-month curfew, and one year of supervised release. Additionally, he faces a 20-year ban from owning or keeping animals.

Additional addresses linked to Carter include 80 Mackie Avenue, Port Glasgow PA14 5AY. His partner, Demi Madden, and their daughter are part of his personal life. Evidence from Facebook suggests that Carter has not respected the court’s ban on keeping animals, raising further concerns about his ongoing involvement in illegal activities.
