NORTHUMBERLAND WOMAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER SPIKING DRINK WITH POPPERS
A woman named Paige Myers has been involved in an incident where she admitted poisoning a pub-goer by spiking her drink with poppers (amyl nitrite).
The incident occurred in a pub in Prudhoe on April 20 of the previous year.
According to Newcastle Crown Court proceedings, Myers was caught on CCTV removing an object from her pocket, later identified as liquid gold poppers, and pouring it into the victim's drink in front of her before returning the drink to its place.
The victim, after returning from the bathroom, noticed her drink smelled strange, and she then began to feel dizzy, spaced out, and experienced a pounding headache, which caused her to panic.
Prosecutor Rachel Butt described Myers' actions as involving an 'admission of administering a poison' and highlighted that Myers poured a 'small amount of liquid gold poppers' into the victim's drink as a joke.
Myers was identified on CCTV by the landlady and was later contacted by the victim via Facebook.
The victim attempted to call Myers but received no answer; the following day, Myers contacted her again, and it was agreed her family would pay her money to the tune of approximately £500, which was later returned.
Myers' actions were labeled as 'seriously reckless' by the court, and she expressed remorse.
She was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation days, 120 days of alcohol abstinence, and 118 hours of unpaid work.
