BRISTOL MAN OWEN JACKSON AND NUNEATON'S TERRY DAVIES SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In a significant case that has spanned decades, two men, Owen Jackson from Bristol and Terry Davies from Nuneaton, have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in serious sexual offences committed against young girls during the 1980s.The investigation, carried out by Warwickshire Police, culminated in a court hearing where both offenders faced justice for their heinous crimes.
On Monday, October 3rd, Terry Davies, aged 49 and residing on Queen Elizabeth Road in Nuneaton, entered a guilty plea to multiple charges.
He admitted to 17 counts of indecent assault, one count of indecency with a child, and one count of rape.
These offences were committed over a span of ten years against two girls, both under the age of ten, in the Nuneaton area.
The gravity of his actions was underscored by the lengthy period during which the abuse took place, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Meanwhile, Owen Jackson, aged 46 and living on Murdoch Square in Bristol, faced a different legal challenge.
Initially pleading not guilty to charges of raping one of the girls—an incident that occurred once in Nuneaton and twice in Bristol when she was approximately 11 years old—Jackson was ultimately found guilty by a jury at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday, October 6th.
The evidence presented during the trial was compelling, including testimony from witnesses and police interviews, which proved his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Both men appeared before Warwick Crown Court on October 10th to be sentenced for their crimes.
The court handed down an 11-year prison sentence to Davies for the rape, with an additional three years for the indecent assaults against the first victim, and another three years for the assaults against the second victim.
These sentences are to run consecutively, resulting in a total of 14 years behind bars.
Davies was also issued with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Owen Jackson received a sentence of 14 years for each count of rape, with all sentences to run concurrently, amounting to a total of 14 years imprisonment.
Like Davies, Jackson was also subjected to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will have to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
The court's decision reflects the severity of their crimes and the lasting impact on the victims.
Adding to the gravity of the case, Jackson's history of boasting about his sexual encounters with a young girl came to light.
Jackson, who was living in Bristol at the time of his conviction, had previously bragged about having sex with a girl who was only 12 years old.
Despite this, he initially pleaded not guilty, but after a three-hour deliberation, the jury found him guilty of all three rape charges.
The judge, Sylvia de Bertodano, rejected bail and warned Jackson that his sentence could start at 13 or 16 years, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and his refusal to accept responsibility despite overwhelming evidence.
In contrast, Terry Davies had already admitted to some offences of indecent assault but had denied additional charges of rape and certain indecent assaults.
He later changed his pleas to guilty on those charges on the day the trial was set to commence.
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented detailed evidence, including a police interview where the victim recounted her experiences.
She described being raped by Jackson on three separate occasions in the 1980s, starting when she was just 11 or 12 years old.
She vividly recalled the first incident occurring in a bedroom in Nuneaton, where Jackson, then in his early 20s, had intercourse with her after instructing her to lie on a mattress on the floor.
The victim also described two additional incidents at different addresses, where she was raped by Jackson.
Her testimony included specific details, such as the color of Jackson’s body hair, which was corroborated by Jackson’s wife, who provided evidence in his defense.
Furthermore, a witness testified that Jackson had admitted to having sex with the girl during a visit back to Nuneaton, bragging about his actions while giving him a lift.
This admission further solidified the case against Jackson, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
Both offenders now face the consequences of their actions, with the court emphasizing the lasting harm inflicted upon their victims.
The sentences serve as a stark reminder of the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse, especially when such crimes span many years and involve vulnerable young girls.
