OFFENDER OWEN COOMBS JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
A man responsible for hitting a woman has been given a prison sentence after being found guilty of several domestic abuse-related charges.Owen Coombs, residing at Kings Court in Warminster, was convicted of multiple offences including abusive behaviour, controlling and coercive conduct, and assault.
Reports indicate that Coombs’ victim reported a theft following a heated argument on August 26, 2024.
During the confrontation, the 23-year-old forcibly pulled the woman through a window and struck her in the face.
Crime Investigator Amanda Southey highlighted the seriousness of coercive control, stating, “Coercive control can deeply affect a person and often leads to lasting emotional damage.
This can also deter victims from revealing their experiences, and I want to commend the victim for their bravery in cooperating with the investigation.” She noted that Coombs inflicted a series of abusive acts on the victim, and her support was crucial in achieving the conviction.
Coombs was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates Court on October 3, 2024, to two years in prison for controlling and coercive behaviour, four months for actual bodily harm (ABH), one month for battery, and was issued a five-year restraining order.
Additionally, he was found in possession of a Class B drug, but did not face separate charges related to this.
Investigator Southey emphasized, “No one should experience any form of physical violence, and as a police force, we are here to listen and support victims.
Reaching out to us is the right step, and no one should feel alone in such situations.”
