BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN EARLY 2000S
A ninth man has been jailed for the sexual abuse of a girl in Bradford in the early 2000s.
Osman Awan, aged 43, was sentenced to 13 years in prison at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to one count of indecent assault.
Anna, not her real name, was between 13 and 15 years old when she was exploited by a gang while living in a children's home in the city between 2002 and 2004.
Awan also admitted charges of harassment, modern slavery, and blackmail.
In October, the BBC reported that eight other defendants had been jailed for abusing Anna, including a man who married her in an Islamic wedding when she was only 15, with trial evidence that he sometimes locked her in a cellar, sexually assaulted her, and deprived her of food, education, and medical care.
Det Ch Insp Vicky Greenbank of West Yorkshire Police commented on her bravery and the long wait for convictions.
