DUNDEE CAFÉ BOSS ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER SEXTING ‘SCHOOLGIRL’
The former boss of a Dundee café has been placed on the sex offenders register after admitting sending a torrent of sick messages to what he believed was a teenage schoolgirl.Omar Sohail appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to attempting to cause a child to participate in sexual activity, viewing sexual images, and attempting to communicate indecently with a child.
He confessed to hounding the “youngster” with explicit messages over six days in May of the previous year, involving graphic photos, encouragement to perform sexual acts, and attempting to meet for illicit encounters.
In reality, he was communicating with an adult member of an online paedophile hunting group, and details of his chats were later handed over to police.
Sohail, aged 34 and residing on Constitution Street, Dundee, admitted that his messages were sent with the intent of sexual gratification or to humiliate, alarm, or distress the girl.
Sentencing is deferred until October 9, pending background reports, with Sohail remaining on bail and on the sex offenders register in the meantime.
He stood down as a director of Samo’r Cafe shortly after his arrest, resigning on May 31 last year.
During the proceedings, Sohail’s case was reduced from a petition to a summary complaint, and he was found guilty of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity and for indecent communication, spanning between May 21 and 26.
The court continues to monitor his status, and he will learn of the duration of his notification requirements at his next court appearance.
