OFFENDER PREVIOUSLY RESPONSIBLE FOR KATRINA MAKUNOVA'S DEATH IN CAMBERWELL JAILED AGAIN AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK
A man with a violent past who previously caused the death of his teenage girlfriend, Katrina Makunova, faces new legal trouble after assaulting a second woman.Oluwaseyi Dada, aged 26, was sentenced in 2019 to prison for manslaughter following an incident outside his residence in Camberwell, where he pushed Katrina, causing her to fall onto a knife she carried in her handbag.
This incident resulted in her death.
Recently, Dada was captured on surveillance footage rushing at Ms Cubillos, a woman with whom he had a troubled history, in Hounslow.
He tried to strike her friend but ended up attacking Ms Cubillos near her eye, causing a serious facial injury.
While she believed a knife was used, Dada claimed he only used moped keys.
He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault, and criminal damage, and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
Additionally, the court issued a ten-year restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Cubillos, her mother, or Mr Tannin, and prohibited him from entering Hounslow and Richmond boroughs.
Prior to this event, police had responded multiple times to reports of his threats and violent behavior, including six visits in five months concerning Ms Makunova, and several other incidents where authorities had attempted intervention.
Despite these warnings, no criminal charges were brought until after Ms Makunova’s death, which was directly caused by Dada’s shove that led her onto a knife.
Police had also been called to previous altercations involving him pushing her in 2022 and threatening her family, with documented evidence of ongoing violence and threats.
Dada has admitted to numerous violent offenses and was already serving time for his earlier manslaughter conviction.
This case underscores shortcomings in police response to the escalating risks Dada posed to Ms Makunova and others prior to her death.
