OLIVER LOWN CONVICTED IN KESGRAVE FOR ANIMAL ABUSE AND OBSCENE IMAGES
Oliver Lown, a man originally from Kesgrave, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving animal abuse and possession of obscene material. Born around 1985, Lown’s criminal activities came to light following a series of disturbing incidents that shocked the local community and prompted police intervention.According to court records, Suffolk Police responded to a call at Lown’s residence, which was a converted garage located at his parents’ house in Kesgrave. The police were initially called due to an assault allegation made by Lown’s former girlfriend. However, after investigating the claim, officers decided not to pursue further action regarding the assault. Instead, they seized computer equipment from the premises, which led to the discovery of seven videos depicting acts of bestiality involving animals.
This discovery was particularly troubling given Lown’s prior history. In 2012, he had already been convicted for possessing similar disturbing images of animals. His previous conviction resulted in a 12-month conditional discharge issued by Northallerton magistrates in North Yorkshire. Despite this, Lown’s involvement in such activities persisted, leading to further legal consequences.
In 2014, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) took disciplinary action against Lown, effectively removing him from the professional register of veterinary surgeons in the UK. This action was a direct response to his previous offences, reflecting the serious nature of his misconduct and the breach of professional standards.
During sentencing, Justice Celia Dawson, a magistrate, noted that pre-sentence reports indicated Lown exhibited a clear lack of remorse for his actions. The reports also revealed that he attempted to justify his offences, which further underscored the severity of his attitude towards his crimes. As a result, Lown was sentenced to 24 weeks in jail, a sentence that underscores the gravity of his offences involving animal cruelty and obscene material.
It is also noteworthy that Lown has used aliases, including Ollie Fraser Henderson, and was once a drummer in a punk rock band called The 4130s. His musical career was abruptly ended after his conviction for animal abuse.
In a more recent development, as of February 2021, Lown, who was then residing in Letterkenny, Ireland, faced extradition back to the UK. The Irish Times reported that he was facing multiple charges related to sexual activity with animals, possession of extreme pornographic images, and other serious offences. Authorities recovered a significant amount of illegal material from his laptop, including 1,219 extreme pornographic images and 3,512 videos. The charges against him also include making indecent photographs of children, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and possession of heroin. These allegations highlight the ongoing and grave nature of his criminal activities, extending beyond the initial convictions in the UK.
