JOHN FITCH FROM KESGRAVE SENTENCED FOR SICKENING INDECENT ASSAULTS IN IPSWICH

A 77-year-old man from Kesgrave, who worked as a hairdresser in Ipswich and also served as a speedway marshal, has been handed a prison sentence of 40 months after admitting to committing indecent assaults on a young girl.

The court heard that John Fitch pleaded guilty to two separate charges of indecent assault, actions that the judge described as both ‘sickening’ and ‘despicable’.

During the proceedings, Fitch revealed to a probation officer that he believed the extensive media coverage of similar cases had influenced his behavior, suggesting a possible awareness of the broader societal implications of his actions.

Despite this, the court made it clear that the primary concern was the profound harm inflicted upon the victim.

The victim’s feelings of disgust and shame were acknowledged as significant and lasting impacts of Fitch’s misconduct.

The judge emphasized the serious and enduring nature of the offences, underscoring the importance of protecting the public from individuals who commit such acts.

As part of the sentence, Fitch was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact with vulnerable individuals.

Additionally, he was registered as a sex offender for an indefinite period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and safeguarding measures to prevent any future harm.
