MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AND INDECENT IMAGES
A man convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving a child has been sentenced to ten years and six months in prison.Oliver Hamon had sexual encounters with a teenage girl, aged 15 at the start of the abuse, between April and July 2024.
It was presented in court at Douglas that Hamon, 36, had also taken indecent pictures of the girl using his phone.
He was found guilty earlier this year on eight counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
The judge, Deemster Graeme Cook, described Hamon as a "dangerous" individual and a predator.
Additionally, Hamon admitted to seven charges of taking indecent images of the girl, which were captured early on her 16th birthday, court proceedings revealed.
The court was informed that Hamon had previous convictions, including offenses of gross indecency and having sex with a girl under 16, dating back to 2010.
In her statement, the girl shared how stressful the investigation was for her and that she suffered panic attacks.
She also said the timing of the trial impacted her exam results but emphasised that she appreciated being believed and recognised as a victim.
In his sentencing remarks, Deemster Cook remarked that Hamon’s denial of the charges was an attempt to suggest the girl was lying.
"Only one person is lying here," he said, referring to Hamon, and added, "You lied over and over again." The judge praised the girl for her courage in coming forward and participating in the proceedings, saying she should be proud.
He condemned Hamon’s conduct as "disgusting." Hamon was ordered to sign the sex offenders register and was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that bans him from contacting young girls or using internet-connected devices indefinitely.
