REFUGEE MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN CARDIFF
A violent individual named Olekjii Dzen has been convicted of multiple domestic abuse offences in Cardiff.He was sentenced to 12 months in prison after a court heard detailed accounts of his violent behavior towards his partner.
The incidents included strangulation, punching, threatening to hit her with a brick, and throwing water over her.
During the first incident in January 2023, Dzen allegedly placed his hands around his partner’s neck for about a minute, causing her to fear for her life.
The court also heard of a second incident in February 2024 where Dzen, who was intoxicated at the time, grabbed his partner, pushed her into the kitchen, punched her multiple times, and threatened her with a brick.
The court noted Dzen’s vulnerabilities, including his status as a refugee from Ukraine, his deafness, and his lack of stable residence.
He pleaded guilty to one count of strangulation and two counts of assault, with the judge emphasizing the seriousness of such offences especially when involving threats with weapons and domestic settings.
Dzen was sentenced to serve 10 months for strangulation and assault, with two additional months for another assault, and will be released on license after serving up to half his sentence.
