NEWINGTON MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN AGAINST EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man named Nuno Rodrigues, residing on Playstool Road in Newington, near Sittingbourne, has been sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to controlling and abusive behavior and assault.The court heard how Rodrigues carried out a campaign of violent abuse against his former girlfriend, Leonie Waldock, including threats to run her over and posting her personal images online.Leonie described how during their relationship, Rodrigues subjected her to a series of attacks that left her physically scarred, including facial scars that require Botox treatment every three months.
She revealed that Rodrigues had strangled her and made multiple threats, including strangulation attempts and threats to run her over.
Following her ordeal, Leonie was diagnosed with PTSD and depression and was forced to leave her job and previous residence.
She recounted how Rodrigues repeatedly assaulted her, including on holiday in Madeira, where he pinned her down, smashed her phone, and refused hospital treatment.Leonie expressed her relief at him being behind bars, stating, “Now my abuser is behind bars I can finally enjoy Christmas.” She described feeling helpless and vulnerable during the abuse, which started after they moved in together in July 2022.
She also shared her trauma of being on medication and needing therapy to cope with her injuries and mental health issues.During the sentencing, the judge acknowledged her courage in reading her impact statement and imposed an order for Rodrigues to stay away from her until further notice.
Rodrigues was also ordered to surrender his mobile phone, which contained personal pictures and videos.
Leonie’s mother praised her bravery and encouraged other victims to speak out and report abuse.
