DIAS STALKED HIS VICTIMS BEFORE EXPOSING HIMSELF AND ASSAULTING THEM ON RURAL PATHS IN ROTHERHAM.
In Rotherham, Dias engaged in a pattern of stalking his victims through rural areas before committing acts of sexual exposure and assault. His first victim was a woman on Moor Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, whom he exposed himself to, then pursued after she fled.
The next day, two teenage girls were approached by Dias in the same vicinity.
He performed a lewd act publicly in front of them, with CCTV footage showing him following them in his car before running to catch up with them on a nearby footpath.
A week later, a woman on the TransPennine Trail in Dearne Valley was also targeted; he exposed himself and carried out a sexual assault.
CCTV analysis revealed Dias stalking her for over a mile before finally waiting for her to enter a rural pathway, where he committed his offence.
The case was brought together through extensive CCTV investigation, which linked Dias’ car to the crimes, and the discovery of clothing matching the victims’ descriptions.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of indecent exposure and a sexual assault.
On October 1, at Sheffield Crown Court, Dias admitted guilt on all counts.
He was sentenced to a 54-week prison term, suspended for two years, and was also ordered to undertake a 55-day rehabilitation programme, 43 days of sex offender therapy, and 66 hours of unpaid community service.
Officers Detective Sergeant David Baker and DC Dawn Murray commented: "Dias engaged in dangerous, predatory behaviour.
He stalked and isolated his victims before abusing them." They commended the bravery of the women involved in reporting the incidents, emphasizing their perseverance through a lengthy process.
"This conviction sends a message that victims of similar crimes can trust in the justice system to treat their cases with seriousness and care from start to finish," they concluded.
