MAN WHO ASSAULTED WOMEN JAILED
A man who violently punched a woman in the head giving her the impression she was about to die and caused another woman to live in ongoing fear has been sentenced to prison.Noah Munson, a resident of Ripon, was found guilty of causing bodily harm to one woman and of assault along with coercive and controlling conduct against a second woman.
In September 2023, Munson assaulted a woman on Queen Street, Ripon, following an altercation.
The victim was struck with such force she was knocked to the ground, sustaining two large lacerations to her head.
In a personal statement read out in court, she described the devastating effects of the attack: “That night, I genuinely believed I was going to die.
From the moment I sustained my injuries until I arrived at hospital, I experienced a level of fear I had never known before.
“I was choking on my own blood, losing consciousness, and had no idea whether I would survive.” She explained how the psychological impact still affected her: “I feel as though I am surviving each day while battling recurring trauma.
This savage attack has permanently changed me.” Munson was charged with wounding – and later pleaded guilty.
However, while he was on bail for that offence, another woman came to a local police station to report repeated unwanted contact from him, and disclosed coercive and controlling behaviour – including the use of threats and physical violence towards her.
On 7 May 2026, at Leeds Crown Court, Munson also pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and one charge of controlling or coercive behaviour.
The judge commended the victim for her bravery in supporting the prosecution.
In her own statement, read to the court, she said: “During my relationship with Noah, his behaviour became increasingly controlling.
Over time, I felt as though I had no say over my own life.
“I was constantly frightened of upsetting him, and this fear became part of my everyday life.
“Because of his behaviour, I lost my confidence and independence.
I felt like I was always being watched and I no longer felt like myself.” At York Crown Court today, 22 May 2026, Munson, 21, was sentenced to a total of 45 months in prison.
