RIPON MAN JAILED FOR STALKING WOMAN AND CAUSING SERIOUS DISTRESS
A stalker who called his victim more than 90 times in one night and visited her workplace has been sentenced to 10 months in jail.
Ashley Paul Watson, of Gallows Hill, targeted the woman by attacking her, making threats to damage her house, turning up at her workplace, and making over 90 calls in a single night.
Watson, 30, pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress and assault.
He also admitted to assaulting the same woman on the day he was due to stand trial.
Watson was sentenced to seven months for stalking and three months for assault, which will be served consecutively.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Dean Slater stated, 'Watson originally denied the offences and was about to stand trial, but he pleaded guilty, sparing his victim the ordeal of giving evidence.' He added, 'I am pleased justice has been served and hope the victim can now move on with her life.'
