FORMER SOLDIER NIRMAL GILL JAILED 17 YEARS FOR BRUTAL WIFE MURDER
Nirmal Gill, aged 49 and a former military serviceman, used a metal dumbbell to repeatedly strike his wife, Rosemary Gill, aged 48, around the head at their residence in Bristol.
The assault was fueled by revenge after a private investigator hired by Gill uncovered his wife’s affair with her ex-husband, Andrew Cooper, in July of the previous year.
During the proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, it was revealed that a tracking device had been attached to Mrs.
Gill’s car, providing her location updates to Gill and enabling him to learn about her affair.
Gill, who denied the charge of murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of loss of control, was convicted by a jury after two hours of deliberation.
He received a prison sentence of 17 years.
It was disclosed during the trial that the attack occurred during a four-week period, and that Rosemary’s naked and bloodied body was found by their 19-year-old daughter, Jasmine, eight hours after her death.
Gill claimed he could not recall the incident, citing the influence of a mixture of prescription medication and alcohol.
He also stated that he did not intend to kill his wife, asserting instead that his actions amounted to manslaughter.
