EASTBOURNE MAN CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND ATTEMPTED VOYEURISM
A person named Nigel Eccles, aged 67, was involved in an incident at Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton where he attempted to film a mother and her young daughter in the changing rooms.
Eccles initially claimed he dropped his phone upon being caught, stating he was curious after seeing movement reflected on his phone screen.
However, police investigation revealed a hidden hard drive in his car's spare tyre, which contained a voyeuristic image of a woman taken years earlier, along with hundreds of child abuse images downloaded from the internet.
Eccles was arrested on March 7, 2023, but wasn't charged until March 4, 2025, due to extensive delays.
When appearing at the Old Bailey, he pleaded guilty to multiple charges: attempted voyeurism related to the leisure centre incident, voyeurism, possession of 273 indecent images of children, and nine prohibited cartoon images of children.
The victim, a mother, reported suffering depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and expressed distrust toward men and concern for her daughter.
Judge Philip Katz KC described Eccles's behavior as 'appallingly' and indicated that he would have been imprisoned two years ago had it not been for delays that allowed Eccles to seek treatment.
Ultimately, Eccles was sentenced to two years in custody suspended for two years, with 200 hours of unpaid work, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, and sex offender notification requirements in place.
