NICK SMITH FROM DUNDEE FAILS TO REPORT HOMELESSNESS, JAIL TIME AHEAD

A convicted sex offender from Dundee is currently behind bars after admitting to a failure to notify authorities about his change in living circumstances.

Nick Smith, aged 42, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court via a custody hearing to acknowledge that he did not comply with the mandatory reporting obligations that are part of his registration as a sex offender.

According to court records, Smith failed to inform police of his homelessness between September 17 and October 8.

This omission is considered a breach of the strict conditions imposed on individuals on the sex offenders register, which require timely updates about any changes to their personal details or residence.

Smith’s legal troubles stem from a previous conviction in April, when he was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of one year.

The conviction followed a court finding him guilty of indecently touching a woman and then swinging a bag filled with glass bottles at her.

The incident occurred at the Premier Store located on Nethergate in Dundee on August 8, 2021.

During the recent court proceedings, Sheriff Eric Brown decided to defer sentencing for Smith until November 6.

In addition to postponing the sentencing, the sheriff also remanded Smith into custody, indicating that he will remain detained until the next court date to face the consequences of his failure to report his homelessness as required by law.
