PURFLEET MAN JAILED FOR ONLINE SEX CHATS WITH PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS
A south Essex man has been sent to prison after engaging in online sex chats with vigilante paedophile hunters posing as teenage girls.
Nicholas Long, 52, of Wood Avenue, Purfleet, was jailed at Basildon Crown Court for two years.
He was convicted of seven charges of attempting to communicate sexually with a child and five counts of attempting to cause a child aged 13-15 to view sexual imagery.
In addition to a 24-month sentence, Judge Siew Loke ordered him to sign onto the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and imposed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The order bans him from owning any device capable of searching the internet or storing images unless he notifies police within three days, gives them the password and makes it available for random inspections.
He is also prohibited from deleting his internet history, using software that prevents history retention, or using encryption or wiping software.
Written permission from police is required to delete applications, and he is banned from using chat sites, social media platforms, or online dating services unless he notifies police and keeps all communications for inspection.
