NEIL PORTER FROM LINTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, WILL BE AT BABY'S BIRTH

In a case that has shocked the community of Linton, Neil Porter, a 39-year-old plumber, was sentenced to a six-month jail term after admitting to possessing and creating indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed that Porter, who resides on Heath Road in Linton, had been involved in this criminal activity dating back to 2002.

During a police investigation in September 2006, officers visited Porter’s residence as part of an inquiry into sexual grooming. The investigation uncovered computer equipment that, upon analysis, revealed Porter had conducted internet searches for terms such as “Lolitas” and “junior boys.” Authorities found nearly 2,000 images depicting child abuse, categorized from levels one to four, with the highest level being five, indicating severe abuse.

Porter’s background was also scrutinized, revealing his involvement with the Scouts movement, which added a layer of concern given his access to children. Initially, Porter claimed ignorance about how these images appeared on his computer and denied any interest in pornography of any kind. However, the evidence was overwhelming, and he later admitted to possessing the images.

Prosecutor Martin Yale detailed the findings to Maidstone Crown Court, emphasizing the severity of the case. Defense lawyer Timothy Walker highlighted Porter’s deep roots in the Linton community and his role as a father to a four-year-old daughter. Walker expressed that Porter found it difficult to accept his own actions but acknowledged that he recognized the need for help. He stated that Porter would seek counseling upon his release from prison.

Judge Crawford Lindsay, QC, addressed the court, condemning Porter’s actions as a perpetuation of harm against vulnerable children. The judge acknowledged that Porter appeared to have become addicted to this form of pornography but also noted that he was a man of good character prior to this incident. Recognizing the potential for rehabilitation, the judge exercised mercy, especially considering Porter’s desire to be present at the birth of his second child, due in April.

As part of his sentence, Porter was banned from working with children and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for seven years. The court’s decision reflects a balance between punishment, the potential for reform, and the importance of family commitments, with the community of Linton watching closely.
