NEIL HASTIE JAILED FOR CHILD RAPE IN GUERNSEY: A SHOCKING CASE FROM THE 1970S AND 1980S

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Guernsey, Neil Hastie, a 65-year-old former taxi driver, has been sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison for heinous crimes committed against two young girls during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The court heard that Hastie was convicted on three counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault, all relating to underage victims, with the two girls being just 11 and 13 years old at the time of the offenses.

Hastie, who was well-known locally for his involvement in sports such as table tennis and water polo, vehemently denied the allegations.

He claimed that the two women, who had no connection to each other, had fabricated their stories about having sexual encounters with him when they were under the age of 16.

Despite his denials, the evidence presented in court was compelling and led to his conviction.

The first woman to come forward, now aged 43, recounted that she was only 11 years old during the summer of 1981 when Hastie began grooming her.

She described how he would take her out on motorbike rides, buy her drinks, and give her ice-creams, actions that she now recognizes as manipulative and predatory.

She revealed that Hastie raped her three times, with the assaults occurring at different locations: initially on a cliff path, then at his home, and finally at a building site where he was working at the time.

The woman explained that she found the strength to speak out about her ordeal only after her own daughter turned 11.

She told the court, “It is not something I can keep as a sordid secret any more,” highlighting the long-lasting impact of the abuse and her courage in coming forward.

Judge Russell Finch, presiding over Guernsey’s Royal Court, delivered a stern sentence, condemning Hastie’s actions as “simply evil.” The judge also noted that the defendant showed no remorse for his crimes.

In addition to the 12-year prison term, Hastie was sentenced to a five-month extended sentence, which will be served upon his release from prison, ensuring he remains under supervision for a period after his incarceration.

This case underscores the importance of justice for victims of child abuse and serves as a stark reminder of the lasting scars such crimes leave on survivors and their families.
