ROTHERHAM MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND PREDATOR TACTICS
Neil Cawton, aged 68, was convicted of numerous child sex offences following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.He targeted four girls aged between 13 and 16 during the years 2006 to 2012.
Cawton would buy cigarettes and alcohol for these young girls from a shop in Rotherham before bringing them back to his residence to commit abuse.
The crimes include engaging in sexual activity with a child, indecent assault, and performing sexual acts in the presence of a minor.
The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison, with a minimum of six years to be served before eligibility for parole.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life.
Senior Investigating Officer Andy Sandham of the National Crime Agency stated, 'Neil Cawton took advantage of these young and vulnerable teenagers, plying them with alcohol and cigarettes in a bid to gain their trust.
He pretended to be their friend, but he was their predator.' Prosecutor Sam Thompson commented, 'Cawton was calculating and manipulative, luring girls into his home with cigarettes and alcohol to abuse them for his own gratification.
Such crimes are traumatizing and life-changing, and I commend the victims for coming forward.
This conviction sends a message that justice will be pursued relentlessly.
