CONVICTED OFFENDER NEIL BASON JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Neil Bason, aged 38, has been convicted of assaulting his on-off girlfriend and causing criminal damage.
According to court reports, the incident occurred when he snatched her mobile phone and accused her of cheating on him.
An altercation ensued, during which Bason grabbed her, causing bruises to her arms, and forced his way onto her property after she fled.
He also accused her of sleeping with her cousin.
Bason was also observed to have a history of previous convictions, including for assault and stalking, and was breaching a suspended sentence for drink driving issued in January 2023.
His victim initially did not want to pursue charges but later changed her mind after an incident at The Wellington pub where Bason followed her and damaged her phone.

He expressed remorse, stating, 'I think I needed to go to prison,' citing his recent drug and alcohol use.
The judge sentenced him to 25 weeks in prison and imposed a restraining order banning him from contacting his former partner for five years.
