NEAL HOPKINS FROM TRENT VALE JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES ACROSS STAFFORDSHIRE AND BEYOND
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Stoke-on-Trent and beyond, Neal Hopkins, a 46-year-old resident of Stone Road, Trent Vale, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to a series of serious sexual offences involving young boys.The offences, which spanned over five years and covered multiple regions including Staffordshire, Derbyshire, North Wales, South Wales, Worcestershire, and Yorkshire, highlight the extent of Hopkins' predatory behavior.
Hopkins was convicted at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to a total of 26 charges related to his sexual misconduct.
These included fifteen counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with minors, three counts of inciting children to participate in sexual acts, and one charge of paying for sexual services from a child.
Additionally, he admitted to causing a child to view sexual images, taking five indecent photographs of children, and distributing one such indecent image.
The court heard that Hopkins exploited social media platforms and online chat websites to establish contact with his victims.
He targeted seven boys, all under the age of 16, engaging them in sexual conversations and encouraging them to send indecent images of themselves.
The grooming process involved persistent online communication, which ultimately led to physical meetings.
On five separate occasions, Hopkins met with five different boys in person, engaging in sexual activities with each of them.
During one of these encounters, he also provided one of the boys with money, further demonstrating his manipulative tactics.
The police investigation was initiated after his arrest in July of the previous year, during which his mobile phone was seized.
The device contained indecent images of children, and evidence confirmed that sexual activity had taken place.
Following his arrest, Hopkins was remanded in custody and subsequently sentenced.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his contact with minors and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
In December 2018, Hopkins had already pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including making indecent photographs of children, causing or inciting sexual activity with minors, and paying for sexual services involving children.
His sentencing was scheduled for January 21 at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where a probation report was to be considered.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ register and remanded in custody pending sentencing.
