MAN JAILED AFTER GETTING UNDERAGE GIRL HE MET ON FACEBOOK PREGNANT ON FIRST DATE
Immature George Gaitley got an underage girl pregnant on their first date - just a day after meeting on Facebook. The 24-year-old was aged 22 when he met his schoolgirl victim online.
They had unprotected sex and the teenager fell pregnant.
However, when she informed Gaitley the child was his, his behaviour towards her was 'shoddy, disgusting and horrible'.
Now Gaitley has been jailed for 12 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
He has been handed a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.
Prosecutor David Bennett said the teenager told Gaitley her age after he sent her a Facebook friendship request.
He told her he felt like he was 17 but told her he was aged 22.
The pair met the next day in a field and they engaged in consensual sexual intercourse.
Mr Bennett said: "He denied ejaculating.
The parties only met once.
As a result of that meeting she fell pregnant." The court heard the teenager went on to give birth to her child and a DNA sample confirmed Gaitley was the biological father.
Mr Bennett added: "She told the defendant she was aged 15.
He was rather vague but he did tell her he was 22 but acted like a 13-year-old and looked 16.
They had consensual intercourse.
She asked if he ejaculated.
He told her he had not.
They had no conversation about any contraception." Two days after they had sex the defendant deleted the victim off all his social media accounts and blocked her.
Months later she messaged him and said she had missed her period.
Mr Bennett added: "He was in denial about the pregnancy." In the last conversation they had, Gaitley told her to 'f*** off'.
The schoolgirl told her mum when it was confirmed she was pregnant.
In a victim impact statement she said the events had changed her life.
She said: "I was robbed of my self-respect, dignity, friends and the end of my childhood.
I was a child.
Through this whole situation, the person who has suffered the most is me.
He made me into a mess.
His actions led to me having to sacrifice my education.
I had a plan for my life.
I have had to put that on hold.
My child has done nothing wrong and is the best thing that ever happened to me." Gaitley, of Claytonwood Road, Trent Vale, pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child under 16.
Catherine O'Reilly, mitigating, said Gaitley regrets his actions.
Miss O'Reilly said: "He is ashamed to find himself in the dock to be sentenced for an offence of this type.
He is supported by his family.
They have found it very difficult to come to terms with the situation their son has found himself in.
It is behaviour that is out of character for this young man." Miss O'Reilly said Gaitley, who smokes cannabis daily, was immature and acted recklessly.
She added: "He accepts he treated her appallingly.
He panicked and he behaved very badly." Gaitley will serve up to half of his sentence in prison.
Recorder Robert Smith said: "This took place with her factual consent, although legally she was still a child and was unable to give legal consent.
You disputed you were the father.
You told her to 'f*** off'.
There was no contact after that.
DNA proved you were the father.
The way you treated her was shoddy, disgusting and horrible.
I am quite sure you have been brought up to behave better than that."
