TREUDDYN MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
A FLINTSHIRE man has been jailed after a "disgusting" and drunken sexual assault on a young girl.Neal Brown, of Treuddyn, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentence on Tuesday morning via video link from HMP Berwyn.
The 50-year-old had previously admitted offences of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual assault.
Brian Treadwell, prosecuting, told the court that the incident took place in 2024, on an occasion when Brown had been drinking to excess.
The court heard the defendant made inappropriate comments to the girl before asking if she wished to engage in sex acts with him.
He also sexually touched her, Mr Treadwell said.
The court heard prior to his arrest for the offence, his attitude when challenged had been "almost nonchalant." When interviewed by police and subsequently by probation officers, he did make admissions, but also displayed what Judge Simon Mills described as "absolutely classic distorted thinking" - and even some elements of victim blaming.
In her victim impact statement, the girl said Brown's actions had had a profound impact on her.
"What he did to me will stay with me forever," she said.
"It will affect me for a long time to come." Dafydd Roberts, defending, told the court: "Significantly, Mr Brown has no previous convictions at the age that he is.
"And it is clear that he has shown some insight into his offending.
"He is remorseful and ashamed of the way he behaved.
"Mr Brown has been able to identify that he was effectively masking his problems through excessive drinking - and he intends to address that whilst in custody.
"I concede the only sentence the court can pass today is one of immediate imprisonment." The Judge told Brown he is a "high risk of harm" to female children, jailing him for a total of four years and four months.
He was made subject to the notification provisions as a sex offender indefinitely, with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order made to restrict his contact with female children.
Judge Mills also imposed an indefinite restraining order for the protection of the victim.
"My first regard has to be for the harm you did," the judge said, emphasizing the dangerous nature of his actions and the lasting impact on the victim.
