DAMION SWEENEY'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN TREUDDYN AND MOULD REVEALED
Damion Sweeney, a man born around 1986 and residing at 33 Maes Glyndwr in Treuddyn, Mold, has been exposed for his disturbing history of animal cruelty, including acts of badger baiting and the suffering of dogs involved in illegal fighting. His criminal record includes previous convictions for stalking and possession of extreme animal pornography, which underscores a pattern of disturbing behavior.Recently, Sweeney was found guilty on 12 separate charges related to his brutal treatment of animals. These charges were divided between violations of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and the Protection of Badgers Act 1992. Specifically, eight charges under the Animal Welfare Act accused him of causing unnecessary suffering to two dogs, a female tan lurcher and a dog named Reggie. The remaining four charges under the same act pertained to neglecting to protect these animals from injury and failing to provide them with necessary veterinary care on multiple occasions, including incidents in November 2017, January 2018, and March 2018.
Four additional charges under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 involved Sweeney’s deliberate attempts to kill, injure, or take badgers on four separate occasions. These acts of cruelty were uncovered during an investigation initiated by the RSPCA in March 2019. The investigation was prompted by evidence obtained from a mobile phone seized from Sweeney, which contained videos depicting the abuse. One such video showed a tan lurcher attacking a badger, an act that would have inflicted significant pain and distress on the animal.
The police executed a warrant at Sweeney’s residence, where they discovered dogs with injuries consistent with use in badger baiting. An expert veterinarian present at the scene confirmed that Sweeney had caused his dogs to suffer unnecessarily on multiple occasions by encouraging and allowing them to fight with wild mammals, including badgers. The vet also noted that Sweeney’s failure to seek prompt veterinary treatment for the injuries sustained by his animals contributed to their prolonged suffering.
As a result of his convictions, Sweeney was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison. Additionally, he was disqualified from owning or keeping dogs for a period of eight years. A deprivation notice was issued for two of his dogs, removing them from his custody. This case highlights the ongoing efforts of authorities and animal welfare organizations to combat illegal animal cruelty activities in the region, particularly in the Treuddyn and Mold areas.
