NATHAN GREEN
He once struck her arm so forcefully that it broke, and he also made threats involving a knife.
The court heard that despite her attempts to help him, she was met with ongoing violence.
Dressed in a grey tracksuit, Nathan Green, the domestic abuser, remained silent as he was sentenced to 49 months in prison for multiple violent crimes committed both before and after the breakdown of his relationship with the mother of his child.
During the sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court on June 9, Judge David Dixon addressed Green: “You had a relationship with a woman for some time, and it was clearly a very distressing situation for her.
She tried to assist you, but you responded with humiliation, abuse, and worse.” The judge described the first incident of violence relevant to the case, which occurred on October 10, 2020.
Green had gone to court, and when she offered him a lift, an argument erupted.
During this confrontation, Green struck her with such force that her arm snapped, to the extent that she heard the break while she was driving with their child present.
The injury was confirmed by an X-ray at the hospital.
After the assault, the woman instructed Green to leave, left their newborn with a friend, and visited the hospital.
The court was told that Green later strangled her when he found out she planned to leave him.
The woman claimed her injury was caused by a dog jumping on her, but the court heard she spent about eight years in a relationship with Green, who had issues with anger and jealousy and often questioned her movements.
She separated from Green in 2019, but discovered she was pregnant shortly afterward, continuing their relationship after giving birth.
In March 2022, she decided to leave him and started moving out, but Green confronted her, grabbing her by the throat and making it difficult for her to breathe.
The final episode of abuse happened on August 8, 2022, which led her to report Green to the police.
That day, he entered her new residence, made threats, threw her against a dog cage, knelt on her chest, and pulled down her clothing.
He also threatened to kill himself and to shove a knife inside her.
The court heard she was terrified as she managed to summon her friend, only for Green to block her escape and even bite her.
Green pleaded guilty to several charges including grievous bodily harm, assault, and making threats with a weapon in a private setting.
The victim described her ongoing fear and trauma, revealing that she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and still fears Green’s retaliation.
She recounted how police were involved during incidents in 2015 and 2016, but she did not provide statements at the time.
Green’s lawyer highlighted his brief time in custody and his efforts to change, including giving up cannabis, which he believed worsened his anger.
Despite this, the judge did not consider a lesser sentence possible under guidelines and sentenced Green to four years and one month in prison, along with a 15-year restraining order to protect the victim.
