NAIM GOLMOHAMAD SENTENCED IN WEYBRIDGE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND FLEEING TO SAUDI ARABIA
In June 2019, a man from Weybridge named Naim Golmohamad was handed a significant prison sentence after a series of disturbing sexual offenses involving an eight-year-old girl. The case revealed a troubling history of abuse and an attempt to evade justice by fleeing the country.Golmohamad, aged 67 and without a fixed address but previously residing in Weybridge, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the young girl on two separate occasions in Byfleet during July and August of 2012. The first incident occurred in July, and the second in August, which was particularly severe enough to prompt the victim to confide in her mother. Following this disclosure, her mother contacted the police to report the abuse.
Initially, Golmohamad was arrested in September 2012 and released on bail while investigations continued. However, rather than facing the charges, he chose to flee the United Kingdom, traveling to Saudi Arabia in an apparent attempt to avoid prosecution. His disappearance complicated efforts to bring him to justice, but law enforcement agencies persisted in their pursuit.
It was not until July of the following year that authorities received crucial intelligence indicating Golmohamad’s return to the UK. This information was obtained when he purchased credit for his mobile phone at Heathrow Airport. The phone subsequently made a call in Staffordshire, which allowed police to track his location through local data. Using this information, Staffordshire Police officers located and arrested him at an address in Staffordshire, and he was subsequently returned to Surrey to face the charges.
During the court proceedings, Golmohamad was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault. He admitted to three counts of sexual assault by touching and was also found guilty of two counts of sexual assault by penetration. The victim, in her impact statement, described her emotional and psychological struggles following the abuse. Her words, described by Judge John as “a thoughtful and moving document,” expressed her ongoing internal conflict and difficulty in recalling her life before the incidents. She stated, “I question many times who I would be if the incidents had never happened in my life. I can’t really tell you a lot about how it’s affected me since 2012 because I can’t remember how I was before so I couldn’t really compare the before and after of my feelings and behaviour to tell you about the effects. It feels like I’m at war with myself and my body and it has been very difficult to try and come to peace with the incident.”
On 18 June at Guildford Crown Court, Golmohamad was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison. The sentence comprises an eight-year custodial period, followed by an extended license of one year. Additionally, he will be registered on the sex offenders register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
