BRISTOL MAN JAILED FOR RAPE OF 19-YEAR-OLD STUDENT
A man convicted of raping a student has received a prison sentence close to seven years.Mohsen Gheibi, aged 48 and residing on Stapleton Road in Easton, Bristol, was found guilty of attacking the 19-year-old in May 2019.
The victim, who is unable to be named for legal reasons, shared the impact of her trauma, revealing she no longer feels like the same person and has had to fight through her pain to rebuild her identity.
Gheibi was identified and apprehended six days following the report of the assault, and he was subsequently sentenced to six years and nine months behind bars.
The woman recounted feeling 'frozen in fear' as Gheibi followed her into her bedroom before assaulting her.
In her victim statement, she described her previous feelings of empowerment being replaced by shame, disgust, and self-hate.
She also mentioned that she felt numb and paralyzed, delaying her pursuit of justice for three years.
Detective Constable Katrina Collier from Avon and Somerset police stated that Gheibi preyed on a vulnerable young woman during the late hours and showed no remorse.
She praised the victim's bravery for coming forward and expressed hope that the sentencing would help achieve the justice she seeks.
The victim also hoped her courage would inspire others to speak out against sexual violence, and she conveyed a sense of gratitude to be alive today.
