MOHAMMED SULTAN FROM TELFORD AND WELLINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES IN SHROPSHIRE AND WOLVERHAMPTON

In a series of disturbing criminal cases spanning several years, Mohammed Sultan, a resident of Wellington and originally from Telford, has been convicted and sentenced for multiple serious sexual offences involving minors. The details of his criminal history reveal a pattern of predatory behavior that has caused significant harm to vulnerable young girls in the region.

In April 2015, Sultan was handed a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. The court heard that between June and August 2007, Sultan, then 28 years old, repeatedly visited the victim's residence in Telford. During these visits, he forcibly engaged her in sexual acts, including rape and other sexual activities. The victim was a minor at the time, and the court was informed of Sultan’s coercive behavior during these encounters.

Prior to this conviction, Sultan had already been serving a seven-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2012 to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of controlling child prostitution. These offences involved his sexual relations with two teenage girls, including a 13-year-old girl. His guilty plea came after a separate investigation into his activities, which uncovered his involvement in exploiting young girls for sexual purposes.

Following his release from prison, Sultan, who resides on Victoria Avenue in Wellington, was subjected to a further five years on license, ensuring close monitoring of his activities. His criminal record is extensive, with earlier convictions dating back to 2012, when he was jailed for seven years for a series of sex-related offences involving minors. During that trial, it was revealed that Sultan had engaged in sexual acts with a 13-year-old girl after taking her to a lay-by in his car, where he also slapped her. The court was told that Sultan had initially asked the girl to perform a sex act when she was just 12 years old.

Judge Michael Challinor, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of Sultan’s actions, stating that he was aware of the girl’s vulnerability and the damage caused by his conduct. Sultan’s crimes also included taking a third teenager from Telford to have sex with workers at a local fish and chip shop, further illustrating his pattern of exploiting young girls. The judge highlighted the profound and incalculable harm inflicted upon these victims, many of whom were young and vulnerable.

In court, prosecutor Miss Deborah Gould detailed how the youngest victim, who met Sultan at age 12, initially refused his advances but was later taken to a lay-by where he assaulted her. The 16-year-old victim was exploited as a prostitute by two of Sultan’s friends, and she was taken to a fish and chip shop in Hadley, where she was sold for sex to several workers. Another victim, a 15-year-old girl, was taken to Sultan’s home on Victoria Avenue, where he provided her with alcohol and cannabis before engaging in sexual activity with her.

Throughout the proceedings, Sultan’s defense argued that he was immature at the time of these offences, and his lawyer, Mr. Brian Dean, noted that Sultan now faces the shame and consequences of his actions. Despite this, the court made it clear that Sultan’s crimes warranted strict penalties, including lifetime registration as a sex offender and a lifelong ban from working with children. He was also subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which remains in effect until further notice.

In a separate incident in September 2012, Sultan, then 25, admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in his car, an offence that occurred more than four years prior. He also admitted to controlling the prostitution of a third teenage girl, with these incidents spanning from September 2007 to December 2009. The court adjourned sentencing, with Sultan being bailed pending further proceedings, as his defense chose not to seek a social inquiry report. His criminal activities, involving multiple minors over several years, have left a lasting impact on the victims and the community in Telford and Wellington.
