EXMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR GANG RAPE ON CHRISTMAS EVE
A man named Mohammed Miah involved in a brutal Christmas Eve gang sex attack of a woman has been sentenced to 10 years in jail. The incident occurred in Carlisle, where the victim, who was extremely intoxicated, was misled about a taxi and guided about a mile through Carlisle city center in the early hours of December 24, 2017.
Inside a flat, she was sexually assaulted by multiple individuals, including Kabir Hussain, 41, who raped her twice, and Marco Martins, 32, who also sexually assaulted her.
During this ordeal, Miah, aged 38, entered the room and raped the woman without speaking to her.
The court described this as a gang assault and highlighted the horror she endured, stating, "This is a gang assault.
It is perhaps difficult to conceive of how a Christmas night out could end in greater horror than what she went through at the hands of these defendants." Miah fled Carlisle on bail and was not apprehended until nearly a year later in Devon, where police arrested him based on DNA evidence.
He admitted to rape and was subsequently jailed.
Judge James Adkin emphasized the severity of his crime, stating, "This was a gang rape of a vulnerable woman for whom you showed utter contempt, and you must be severely punished for it." Miah will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Meanwhile, his co-defendants received sentences of 11 years for Hussain and 45 months for Martins.
